“Dog are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Rob Caras
We can’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday afternoon than with great food, great people and great dogs! Thanks to Petco, the participating food trucks and all of the dog rescues, THE BIG GIVE 2012 – Trucks 4 Pups – was a huge success! By the end of the day, there were 15 dog adoptions, 2 cat adoptions and 3 new foster homes.
Five dog rescues – Colorado Canine, Doggy Dog World, Friends of Retired Greyhounds, Life is Better and L.O.L.A.’s – attended Trucks 4 Pups, bringing with them adoptable dogs ready for loving homes. From puppies, to “seasoned” dogs and everything in between, there was a dog for everyone; it was love at first sight, or sniff!
All of the lovable tail-waggers were rescue dogs that lived with foster families – who took exceptional care of them – until they were adopted at Trucks 4 Pups. The affection and attachment to the dogs was obvious to everyone around, especially when tears were shed following some of the adoptions.
With participating food trucks like The Denver Cupcake Truck, Coach’s Scoop, Neighborhood Eats, Crockspot, Route 40, Capt’n Crabby and Pink Tank, there was something for everyone. To say the food was good is an understatement because the food was amazing! The trucks were not only there to sell food, but they were genuinely interested in the heart of the event: to see loving dogs find loving homes.
Andrew, an R2K volunteer, not only fell in love with the dogs, but also fell in love with Coach’s Scoop Root Beer Italian Ice. “This is the best thing I’ve ever had,” he said.
An added highlight to the event was that all dogs at Trucks 4 Pups were able to enjoy delicious treats sold by the Stink Bug Project and The Rat & The Bear.
Allison Winn, from the Stink Bug Project, was our 2009 Little Give recipient. Her nonprofit organization produces and sells all-natural dog biscuits to help purchase dogs for children fighting life-threatening disease. Allison began her nonprofit at the age of 7 after a successful removal of a brain tumor.
The Bear & The Rat helped round out a hot, summer day with their cool treats for dogs! Providing samples to any four-legged friend that walked by, they also donated some of their frozen treats to all of our participating dog rescues! Wow, what a way to cool off after endless playtime in the summer heat!
With $641 raised in donations and more than $850 of in-kind donations, THE BIG GIVE 2012 will have a life-long impact to all who have a new perfect and loving four-legged member of their family.
